New feature throws TikTok into chaos

The arrival of a brand new feature on TikTok has allowed users to impersonate famous tiktokers, causing confusion on the app.

Over the past two years, TikTok users have faced multiple issues ranging from scams, to identity theft, to leaking private content.

As identity theft is widespread, like multiple applications and platforms, TikTok relied on a verification system, allowing personalities to stand out from the multiple existing fake accounts that could sometimes reach several million subscribers.

While this system has improved the situation, the problem remains, especially since a new feature has come to provide grist for these ill-intentioned users, allowing them to pretend to be other people.

A new TikTok feature is unleashing passions and causing confusion

A new feature has been added to TikTok to allow users to change their usernames as they wish. It didn’t take long for its effects to be felt.

As TikToker’s Noah Glenn Carter pointed out, many verified users have already started changing their name to that of another verified user, fooling many users in the process.

Furthermore, some even go so far as to include words like “Follow-up” at the end of their name, to complete the illusion. This has of course led to multiple outbursts, with users landing on fake profiles, or even questionable sites.

Many voices have been raised on the app, asking TikTok to add restrictions on username changes. Others on the contrary do not see the slightest inconvenience, judging that on the contrary it will make “cult” trends a little easier to organize.

Morality, when using the application remain vigilant and do not take at face value everything you see. As a reminder, however, impersonating an account goes against the app’s terms of use, so those who dare to do so may have their access to TikTok removed.
