Kameto speaks out on the Shanky case and his dismissal from Karmine Corp

More than a year after Shanky was fired by the esport structure Karmine Corp, a Tweetlonger gave some background on the case. Kameto spoke up to clarify the situation.

In January 2021, the famous French esport structure Karmine Corp recruited as esport director Ryan “Shanky” Kheroua, formerly LFL manager of Vitality.

After participating in the success of the KC in this pivotal period of transition from Division 2 to the French League of Legends, Shanky was fired in July 2022. The abrupt end of this collaboration had then raised many questions, lifting a real blur on the situation.

For more than a year, many rumors will have circulated around the case, without Shanky or Karmine Corp officials speaking out publicly.

Finally, it was a TwitLonger published on August 18, 2022 by Ayoub (@NoahQol) that provided some answers as to this situation. Friend of Shanky and close to the Karmine Corp, Ayoub wished to express himself to lift the veil on this case that has “weighed too much emotionally”.

Ayoub begins by explaining the reasons for the heavy silence surrounding Shanky’s departure:

“I’m not going to go into the details of the case, it’s not my place to do so, I’ll tell you my side and I’ll give my opinion at the end, I was stopped many times from speaking, I would have done so in the first month after the “affair” but there was a whole lawyer’s job in discussion and beyond that, the situation was way beyond the competence of Shanky, the KC and myself [..]”

He explains that he spoke with Kotei, Souley, Prime and Kamel shortly after learning of Shanky’s ouster. They would have then explained to him the reason for the end of this collaboration: “there would be a group of women (10+) against Rayane”

In the rest of the TwitLonger, Ayoub reproaches in particular the managers of the Karmine Corp their lack of professionalism after Kotei has, according to Ayoub, confessed: “We have not yet dug enough but here”.

Ayoub also mentions the surprising timing of this case. Indeed, Shanky was according to the TwitLonger supposed to get shares at Karmine Corp the week he was dropped from the project.

In order to nail down all the details and nuances of Ayoub’s speech, we invite you to read his entire TwitLonger.

Kameto and Kotei revisit the Shanky case

In a Twitch live broadcast on August 18, Kameto and Kotei gave their side of the story, revisiting several points made in Ayoub’s TwitLonger.

Kameto first took exception to the financial motive cited by Ayoub. According to the CEO of Karmine Corp, their willingness to grant shares in the company to Shanky would have nothing to do with the reason for his dismissal. In fact, there was no question of Shanky becoming a shareholder of Karmine Corp. in the first place. It was only after he was hired that Kameto and Kotei would have proposed to their employees to grant shares to their esport director.

Believing that for 2% of Karmine Corp they will make up stories like this, it disgusts me […]

In their 30-minute interlocution, Kameto and Kotei return to what would be the bottom of the case, which would be directly related to the fact that a dozen women would have reported inappropriate behavior by Shanky to KC management: “We’re not talking about some chick who talked. No no no, it’s more than ten, bro! […] There’s more than ten chicks that came in and complained, so from there, you can’t bust my c***les thinking I’m doing shenanigans for money or for crumbs.”

Throughout his explanation, Kameto and Kotei remain quite evasive about the precise motives that are blamed on Shanky:

“We get calls, and there are plenty of chicks complaining about his behavior. Some less serious, some more serious. Afterwards, I don’t even know if I have the right to say it because then I’ll be sued.”

According to the two Karmine Corp officials, Shanky would have the right to speak out about the situation from the beginning (his departure from the structure). In the absence of him speaking out or complaints from the alleged victims, Kameto as well as Kotei would therefore not be in a position to go into details.

“They were advised to file a complaint, they said no. We’re not going to force them to talk about it in public or press charges, it’s their choice. I’m not in their shoes, I’ve never had something like this done to me so I can’t know how they feel.”

Finally, Kameto explains that he called a former employer of Shanky’s, which could be Vitality although Kameto does not confirm this at any point. This former employer reportedly explained that he had parted ways with Shanky for similar reasons.
