Activision announces a new "premium" Call of Duty game for 2023

During its second-quarter earnings call, Activision hinted at a new “premium” Call of Duty game due out in 2023.

While Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 will officially be released on Friday, Oct. 28, 2022, a Bloomberg report from February revealed that Activision was planning to delay the next annual CoD from 2023 developed by Treyarch to the year after.

This big decision marks the first time in nearly two decades that no CoD will be released during a calendar year, and surprisingly, the community has come out overwhelmingly in favor of delaying Treyarch’s next installment for 2023.

According to a February poll conducted by CharlieINTEL, 92% of 20,000 votes were in favor of delaying CoD 2023.

However, according to a recent statement in Activision’s Q2 2022 earnings release, the company may finally release a new Call of Duty game in 2023.

Through a Q2 2022 earnings release, Activision said, “Across the Call of Duty ecosystem, teams are well positioned to support these launches with substantial live operations while continuing to develop new premium content planned for 2023 and beyond.

CharlieINTEL then clarified that in the past, when “premium” was used in this kind of release, it equated to fully paid games.

A famous Call of Duty leaker, TheGhostOfHope, then imagined that this could be a standalone project from Activision coming in 2023.

Of course, many theories quickly began to emerge. Some believe that this new premium content will be the DMZ mode, others are thinking of a remaster while some fans are hoping that this will be a completely standalone CoD Zombies game.
